Horwich club rides are always friendly and non-competitive and unlike some other clubs we never leave anyone behind! Up until recently we always started from the Crown pub in Horwich at 9am. But we are keen to grow this area of the club so the decision has been made to move the start of our training rides. See below for information on our club rides. Please make sure you check the forum section on our website to see if rides are taking place. Some evening rides only take place if there is enough interest. Our weekend rides are the most popular!
Sunday training ride - Rivington lower barn 9am - Details here
Early in the year we generally stay on the flat, quiet lanes out towards Southport. We are usually back by between 12-1pm. We try and get 50 miles in if we can which means a very steady average of 15-16mph. We don’t usually factor in a café stop but we do stop for comfort breaks and snacks etc.
Saturday training ride - Fredericks Ice Cream Parlour 9am - Details here
As the weather improves more riders join us and we start to add some more interesting and varied routes taking in the local hills as far a field as the Trough of Bowland. Remember to post your interest on the forum to encourage others to join.
Tuesday training ride - Rivington lower barn 6:30pm (April to Sept) - Details here
During the long summer evenings we also run a mid week training ride. Generally shorter in length. We generally explore the local lanes for a couple of hours before the night draws in. It's always good to bring lights on evening rides just in case!
Thursday cyclo-cross training - Bolton Arena 7pm (Sept to Dec) - Details here
In September last year we began to run a Thursday evening Cyclo-Cross training ride lead by Dave Headon and in association with Bolton Hot Wheels. This has proved to be very successful and has generated so much interest that we intend to continue this training session though out the year. The session is usually two hours and takes in quite cycle paths and lanes in and around the local area. In the Autumn we focus very much on technique and bike handling skills ready for the Cross season.
Remember to bring both front and rear lights in the winter / Spring because it gets dark very early!
Veterans Social ride Tuesday and Thursday - Cherry Tree Pub in Blackrod 9:30am
These rides are for those who prefer a more gentle pace! For ladies and gentleman who have hung up their races shoes but still like to get out on the bike to explore the lanes of Lancashire. A cafe stop is always factored into the ride giving you plenty of opportunity to eat some cake! These rides are very friendly and relaxed.
